Requirements and Recommendations


When preparing new workstations for use with Hosted Desktop there are many things to bear in mind. Below is a list of pre-requirements and recommendations for workstations.

Operating systems

Cobweb supports the following operating systems: Windows XP SP3 or later

OS X 10.1-10.7 or later

Note: They must be fully patched and up to date.

MS Dot Net Framework 2.0 (Windows only)

This should already be installed on Windows Vista and Windows 7 machines, but must be installed on earlier Operating Systems.

Ensuring this is installed before the Citrix client ensures the user will have the XenDesktop toolbar displayed at the top of their screen when they log into Hosted Desktop.

Citrix Online client (Web)


Uninstall any existing local Citrix plugins and install the latest plugin from the hosted desktop login site by browsing to https://login.cobwebdesktop.com and accepting the download and installation when prompted.


After the client is installed, when you login to Hosted Desktop there is a black bar at the top. From here, select preferences then the HDX tab. Enable Flash Acceleration, enable File Access (if desired) and select whether or not your microphone can be accessed inside Hosted Desktop.

Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware/Firewalls


Add the Citrix folder in Program files to the exception list - This can usually be found in "C:\Program Files\Citrix". Please ensure that subfolders and sub files are also excluded.

Internet Browsers


Cobweb only supports the latest versions of Internet Explorer (Windows only) and Safari (OS X only) for accessing Hosted Desktop.

Adobe Flash Player


Ensure that the latest version is installed on the machine.

Printers

When a user logs into Hosted Desktop, Citrix will attempt to map every printer installed on the local PC regardless of whether or not it is available. This can cause problems if any of the printers are erroneous and no longer required. As such, please ensure that only valid printers are installed on the workstation and remove any printers which are not required.

Ensure you are not using PCL 6 drivers. PCL 6 drivers will usually be denoted as such or have no notation. PostScript (PS) drivers are preferable, if these are not available, PCL5/5e drivers can be used.


If users have issues when printing then we would recommend that the printers are set to not use spooling - select the Print directly to printer option in the advanced Printer properties.

Thin Print (windows only)


If a user will be printing very large documents on a regular basis you will need to install and configure thin print on their workstations. Download and installation instructions can be found on the Cobweb Knowledge Base.

Workstation power options or settings

Please ensure that any power options or settings which may interfere with Hosted Desktop are disabled, such as turn off hard drives or network cards.

Connectivity


Ensure that there is a 250kbps connection available per user as a minimum (excluding printing, streaming media, file transfer).

Please note that Cobweb do not support the use of proxy connections or anonymizers.

Navigate to https://login.cobwebdesktop.com.
